Cotswold cottage, Cherington
We have re-landscaped the surroundings of this house in the Cotswolds, creating an entirely new garden against the mellow backdrop of its golden sandstone walls.
Our first job was to build a terrace in front of the new extension. From this elevated perspective, the view is across peaceful fields next to the house. This makes the terrace the ideal place for an evening drink while enjoying the sunset, or an alfresco meal in summer. As darkness falls, the fire pit we have installed below the terrace will be the place to gather, sitting comfortably on elegant furniture selected for this purpose.
The new beds below the terrace will be packed with a prairie-like fusion of grasses and perennial plants, chosen to soften the contours of the terrace and new steps linking different levels of the garden. By planting a few multistem amalanchier we will add another layer of beautiful blossom to the beds in spring, and a bright display of berries and leaves at the end of the year.
And finally, every time our clients come home, turning off the road onto the new parking place below the house, they will be greeted by the sight of a wildflower meadow opposite the gate, and a few fruit trees, heavy with spring blossom or laden with fruit.
